Silvia Bächli (*1956 in Baden, lives in Basel) is considered one of the most important artists in the medium of drawing. Her work was already shown internationally in the 1990s. In 2009, Silvia Bächli represented Switzerland at the Venice Biennale. From 1992 to 2016, she taught as a professor at the Karlsruhe Art Academy.
In the painting gallery of the Museum Langmatt, she is showing a new series of large-format works on paper, presented as a loosely circulating band on the walls. Rhythmised at different intervals, the individual drawings develop an installation-like, expansive energy that enters into an exciting dialogue with the historical exhibition space. With the painterly drawings by Silvia Bächli, the Museum Langmatt illuminates the changing relationships between the media of drawing and painting and thus the permeability of artistic genres today.
