Not Vital (*1948 in Sent / CH, lives in Beijing, Rio de Janeiro, and Sent) is considered one of the most significant Swiss artists of the present day. With studios and places of work all over the world, Not Vital has remarkable knowledge of other cultural contexts.
A number of his sculptural works engage in a subtle dialogue with selected Chinese Han Dynasty artworks from the Langmatt collection, and also with the historic park. In the artworks by Not Vital, irrational connections between different cultural epochs play a central role. Many of his artworks are characterised by an enigmatic and sometimes bizarre sense of humour that produces a childlike amazement, and thus a new and undistorted perception of nature and culture.
